Soprano, Corey Raquel Lovelace hails from Chicago, but has happily made her new home in Alexandria, VA. She looks forward to returning to the stage this summer performing the role of Mimì in La Bohème in her debut with Opera North. Mrs. Lovelace also made her company debut with Opera Carolina as Musetta, in addition to covering the role of Mimì with Opera Carolina in January 2020. She was delighted to join Andrea Bocelli as a guest artist for his Valentine's US Tour in February 2020 at the Spectrum Arena in Charlotte, NC. Last spring she joined Opera Delaware as a young artist for their 2020 season. As a featured soloist, she had the pleasure of performing in China with the iSING! International Festival 2019. In recent seasons, Mrs. Lovelace performed the title role of Cendrillon in La Cendrillon with Little Opera Company of Charlotte and Mimì in La Bohème with Central Piedmont Opera Theatre. In 2018, Mrs. Lovelace received the First Place Award from the Opera Guild of Charlotte’s Opera Competition. Past engagements with Opera Carolina include singing the role of Nanita in Opera Carolina's Opera Xpress production of How Nanita Learned to Make Flan and Kate in the staged premiere of Lost Connection: The Tinder Opera. Mrs. Lovelace made her European debut as a member of the Opera Studio at the American Institute of Musical Studies in Graz, Austria. Mrs. Lovelace completed her Master in Music from DePaul University in Chicago, IL where she had the honor of studying under Jane Bunnell.
She brings years of experience teaching to the studio, but what she loves most is helping a student discover their own voice and style. Mrs. Lovelace’s teaching is rooted in classical technique with strong emphasis on musicianship, allowing her students to sing in a healthy way no matter the vocal style. Mrs. Lovelace believes music has the unique ability to empower, strengthen and enrich students’ lives well into adulthood.
